Elimination

“It is vain to do with more what can be done with less.”
- William of Occam

I cleaned out my wallet today. It was incredibly refreshing. I had a bunch of random receipts in there (Sbarro in Tucson, wtf? How is that worth keeping in the first place?), and a load of cards. I threw all of it away, grouped my cards by type (the ones that didn’t get thrown away), and then proceeded to clean out my work desk.

It was all incredibly refreshing. I think I’ll do my closet when I get home.

There’s something to be said for the simplicity that can be achieved through elimination. Have problems with time management? Quit doing something unnecessary, and boom, loads of free time. Remove a little clutter and suddenly everything seems more free.

Some books I’ve read on the idea of simplification/elimination:

  • Walden – Henry David Thoreau
  • The 4 Hour Work Week – Tim Ferriss
  • The Gospel According to Larry – Janet Tashjian (fiction)
